As i live in the center of Swansea, in a fairly concrete jungle metropolis, my garden consisted of concrete.

The first problem, concrete floor (yes i have a lot of concrete). Worried, that the concrete would lead to a puncture and a very uncomfortable experience, i headed to B&M and at great expense of £16, purchased some garage floor mats, the Jigsaw puzzle type. Came home, and put them together, only to find i needed more! Back to B&M for another set. Perfect.

Then time had come to unpack the hot tub that had spend the last 2 years of it’s life in a plastic tote box, cooking up some nice unknown black gunge all over the liner. Being the stubborn bastard i am, and one that hates cleaning, decided the best course of action was to pump it up, and introduce it to the jet wash. Me thinking that will clean off the gunge that had accumulated over the past 2 years, sat in a storage container in a plastic tote, no such luck. Then something struck me, one of my good ideas (that usually turn out to be a complete cock up), i though Chlorine would be a great option. Filling it up with water, i headed to the local B and Q, purchased some chlorine the PH chemicles and some test strips. Got home, and being a bloke, the last thing in my mind was to read the instructions. Poured half the 500ml bottle of Chlorine in, and turned it on, got a beer and retired to bed. The next day, tested the water, and it practically destroyed the test strip… Tidy. At this, emptied it, and jet washed it again, at this point it was finally clean.

Right, now to fill it up again, this time reading the instructions for the chemicals, and realizing i had to do more than dump a shit load of chlorine in. Looked like the PH and Alkaline was out, and that was very important to fix first, according to my expert in water treatment… Chatgpt. First to tackle the Alkaline, turns out standard cooking sodium bicarbonate is the cure for that. Me being a lover of all things baked (exclusively from greggs), headed to the local supermarket and bought a few tubs of Bicarb. Popped that in, and nothing, turns out you need some patience. 30 minutes later, the water alkaline was perfect, now to tackle the PH, added the PH Down and then some chlorine. This time following the instructions, and added about 2 table spoons in!

Perfect, nope…

Before throwing my toys out of the pram on calculating chemical doses for hot-tubs i built (with some help of AI), a calculator for working out the chemical dose, which i have published on my website for all to use.

Right… Time to get an Hawkstone beer, and relax… tidy.

Sorry for posting my story of woe’s ultimatly i just wanted to share my pool calculator, but needed to write some Bull to go with it!

I recently decided to did out the old Lay Z Spa from storage, and thought it would be a nice edition to the garden, which by the way looked fairly sparse.
